This thesis deals with the molecular and crystal engineering approach towards the synthesis of some potential flexible organic semiconducting system and also presents the synthesis of some important conjugated derivatives in a simple and economically viable way. Besides this synthesis of some novel conjugated thienoacenes are also presented. We have simplified the synthesis of cyclopenta[c]thiophene (CPT) and several other related derivatives by using azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) and thioacetic acid. It is a single step and metal-free synthesis hence making the approach greener. Next, we have presented the synthesis of donor-acceptor-donor type system dichoro-dithieno-benzotriazole (DTBT) in two steps, and the presence of efficient Cl•••Cl interaction and π-π stacking imparts the crystal of dichloro DTBT with flexibility. Besides this, it can also be potential ambipolar material in devices. In the fourth chapter by working at the interface of molecular shape engineering, molecular orbital engineering and crystal engineering, we have given detailed insights into new-generation flexible syn- and anti-thienopentacenes. The last part of this thesis describes the synthesis of a thiophene based precursor, i.e. distannylated-3,4-dialkyne thiophene and its application in the synthesis of a wide array of thienoacenes, larger helical heteroacenes, larger linear heteroacenes and ladder polymers thus broadening the scope of our methodology. In short, this thesis is an amalgamation of synthesis, molecular engineering and crystal engineering.
