Abstract
Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) have been working excellently in advancing modern heterogeneous catalysis. COF as a heterogeneous host for carbon-heteroatom bond formations emerged as a promising alternative to the traditional metal-catalyzed approach in photoredox catalysis. This heterogeneous catalysis is a prominent strategy in photocatalysis as the active catalyst can be completely recycled without significant loss of catalytic activity. The recent development of heterogeneous catalysts like COF-based catalysts is working well as a dual catalyst in cross-coupling reactions. Herein, we synthesized olefin linkage two-dimensional (2D) Bpy-sp²C-COF via the Knoevenagel condensation reaction between the 1,3,6,8 tetra-(4-formylphenyl)pyrene (TFPPy) and 5,5'bis(cyanomethyl)-2,2'-bipyridine (BPDAN). Further post metalation of that highly conjugated Bpy-sp²C-COF with transition metal Ni produces the catalyst Ni@Bpy-sp²C-COF. And this Ni@Bpy-sp²C-COF works as an active dual-catalyst in cross-coupling reactions between organo-iodides and carboxylic acids. Here, the combination of a photoactive COF backbone with Ni-units opens a new avenue for the heterogeneous esterification reaction. This Ni@Bpy-sp²C-COF based esterification strategy has overcome the several drawbacks of previously reported methods like high catalyst dosage, non-reusability of expensive catalysts, and narrow substrate scopes. This work presages a significant footprint on the COF-based heterogeneous photocatalyzed cross-coupling reaction.
