Abstract
Capture and conversion of carbon dioxide is one of the major green and efficient strategies to reduce the excess CO₂ present in the atmosphere. In this context, several homogenous and heterogeneous catalysts have been developed. Herein, we have designed and synthesized an efficient porous organic polymer based robust, heterogeneous catalyst for CO₂ fixation into epoxide for the synthesis of cyclic carbonate. The catalyst is able to work in metal and halide free conditions under atmospheric pressure. Epoxide are activated through H-bonding interaction with the secondary amine group of the organocatalyst while nucleophilic nitrogen atom of the pyrimidine ring attacks the epoxide ring in SN2 fashion and promote the CO₂ incorporation. Additionally, the catalyst is recyclable up to five consecutive cycles.
