Abstract

In this project we have studied transport and optical properties of Vanadium Dioxide thin film (VO₂). This material has an interesting property of metal to insulator or insulator to metal phase transition. In the temperature range 330-350K, it shows rapid phase transition. To get some characteristics of the phase transition, we have collected and analyzed the data of resistance, reflectance and speckle pattern in the temperature region 300-375K. Earlier the divergence of the relaxation time in vanadium(III) oxide (V₂O₃) was experimentally proved by our group, here the primary motivation was to analyze the features near the spinodal point and extract physical properties from it. The experimental setup, process and results are presented in this project. The phase transition is first order but images near the transition prove the change does not happen through typical nucleation process. We interpreted the resistance and the reflectance data and from the percolation model perspective, performed calculations. Understanding the particularities and observing if there is a relation that unites the two has been kept as main focus here.
