Abstract
Speckle patterns occur in reflected light due to roughness in the properties of the reflecting surface. In this project we try to experimentally study these speckles from the scattered light (diffuse reflection) from the surface of a sample that shows coexistance of domains as it transitions from non-metallic phase to metallic phase with increase in temperature. We study correlations of speckles to characterise the metastability occurring around the transitions. We tried to computationally generate speckles from non-uniform surface utilising the concept of interference of the Huygens-Fresnel wavelets. The report concludes with a mention of other informations about a phase-ordering system that can be extracted from speckles and a work on generating a correlated 2D noise for a more realistic simulation of a transitioning system.
