Abstract

Designing appropriate ancillary ligands for the electropositive main group metals like the divalent zinc, magnesium, and calcium has been always challenging as it requires sufficient kinetic protection to prevent ligand dissociation and exchange. Well defined molecular complexes of these metals are potential catalysts for various synthetically useful chemical transformations. In this project, the organometallic coordination chemistries of these three metals have been explored with three different monoanionic and chelating ligand platforms, such as a fluorenyl anion with a tethered N-heterocyclic carbene or an amine as an additional donor and a pyridyl methyl amide. A few metal complexes have been synthesized and fully characterized including NMR spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction techniques.
