Abstract
Recent literature has shown that charge transfer is possible between electron-donating and electron-accepting groups that are attached to a benzene molecule in the meta position with respect to each other. Until now, meta-fluorophores have only been investigated in the solution phase. This work aims to study the photophysical properties of meta-fluorophores not only in the solution phase, but also in the solid state. Likewise, two meta-fluorophore compounds have been successfully synthesised, as well as crystallised, to aid the study. In the solution phase, these compounds did not show large solvatochromic shift in emission, which is generally shown by single-benzenic meta-fluorophores. In the solid state also, the emission was restricted towards the blue end of the visible spectrum.
