Abstract
Photophertic Forces arise due to the interactions between gas molecules and particle interface. Thermal gradients across a particle induce a thermal force on the particle. These forces have been used to trap mesoscopic light absorbing particles using laser beams but the underlying mechanics of particles is not entirely clear. The trapping of these particles is a complex system that has a lot of experimental unknowns. In this project, we study the mechanics of trapping using numerical methods. We take a look at various numerical models which consider different particle geometries and different forces and torques. We demonstrate that rotations of the particle must play an important role in trapping dynamics.
