Abstract
Shoaling is not a strict organismal behaviour. It is performed in tandem with shoal-mates and hence, is different from other activities of the fish. In this study, Effect of the abiotic environment on the group cohesion of the fishes was observed. Most of these factors are reported to be linked to metabolism in Zebrafish (Danio rerio) or other cyprinids and can also alter the hydrodynamic efficiency of the shoal in the water media. Biotic interactions were studied partially, owing to time constraint and complexity in experimental set-up. Reactions of the shoal to Aquatic Predatory and Aerial Predatory were observed using trapped predatory fishes and mimicry of bird pecking. pH, Temperature, Salinity and Turbidity conditions were changed but we failed to find significant difference in shoaling as a response.
