Abstract

In this thesis, we built a pulse shaper with a 2D SLM and demonstrated its capability to shape the spectral phase and intensity of picosecond laser pulses. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of spectral phase and amplitude shaping of a 2 ps laser pulse with a 2D SLM.We calibrated our shaping capabilities in a fringe-resolved autocorrelation setup. Furthermore, we investigated the control of nonlinear absorption process in a semiconductor photodiode, by measuring the photocurrent. Although we only studied nonresonant TPA, the principles are applicable in other two or many-photon processes in interaction with ultrashort pulses, like second harmonic generation, parametric up and down conversion, Raman transitions, etc. Results demonstrated in this thesis also paves the way for generating (temporal) square pulses with ultrashort rise times, which are useful in certain advanced excitation protocols for quantum dots.
