Abstract
Computational and experimental (steady-state and time-resolved) studies were performed for all the above-discussed compounds. Computational studies were performed using DFT at B3LYP function and 6-31G basis set. Experimental (steady-state and time-resolved) studies were performed in five solvents hexane, toluene, EA, DCM, and ACN. Both computational and experimental studies confirmed the intramolecular charge transfer for all the above-discussed compounds. The extent of charge transfer increases on changing the acceptor group from σ acceptor to π acceptor. The solvatochromic shift as high as 210 nm is observed for N,N-diethyl-3-nitroaniline. The solvatochromic shift value indicates that the extent of charge transfer is most for N,N-diethyl-3-nitroaniline as compared to all the other compounds observed in this study So, the conclusion can be drawn that if the donor-acceptor groups are meta oriented to each other intramolecular charge transfer is possible, and the extent of charge transfer can be changed by changing the electron-accepting ability of the acceptor group
