Abstract

In this report, we use nitroarenes as an ozone surrogate for skeletal editing of internal alkynes by deleting a carbon atom. The methodology employed is purple-light-assisted photochemistry of nitroarenes. The study involved crucial reaction design and demonstrated the role of nitroarene as an oxygen source and carbon-deleting reagent, leading to the formation of respective ketones. Operating at mild reaction conditions, the method accommodates large functional groups. Also, we are trapping the key intermediates to synthesize the aryl acetic acid ester. We believe that this transformation can be used for the synthesis of NSAID drugs.
