Abstract
Irradiation by an intense laser beam can cause many interesting photophysical processes in different materials. When an intense laser beam passes through any medium, it leads to a temperature rise in the medium. This temperature rise depends on the intensity profile of the laser beam cross section. For a Gaussian laser beam, at the center, the temperature rise is more with respect to the periphery, resulting in a transverse (to the beam propagation direction) thermal gradient in the sample. Thermal gradient plays important role in many phenomena related to light-matter interaction. In this thesis, I have focused on the intriguing effects of laser-induced thermal gradient on optical, thermal, and transport properties in diverse materials in solid and liquid forms. I have studied the effect of the laser-induced thermal gradient on refractive index and also on spin-polarized photocurrent.
