Abstract
Synthetic polymers are advantageous over natural macromolecules in creating different tuneable compositions and architectures. The complexity, diversity and flexibility ofthese synthetic macromolecules are completely guided by the monomer sequence in syntheticpolymers. In recent decades, researchers have made various attempts to create a new class ofpolymers keeping in mind the structural and as well as functional control of natural polymers.As a result numerous methods, like reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, coordination polymerization, ring-opening polymerization (ROP), etc., have been used to afford control during the polymerization, which can mimic the biopolymerizaionsystem. RAFT polymerization is a potent method to design innovative polymeric architectures with controlled molar mass and narrow dispersity for various bioapplications. Therefore, the preparation of amphoteric amino acid-based synthetic polymers having numerous biorelated applications like stimuli responsiveness, efficient drug and gene deliverydevices, antibacterial property, fibril inhibition, chiral recognition, are reported. Synthetic amino acid-derived polymers are divided into two types: depending upon the position of theamino acid moieties, which are either decorated as pendants in side chain of the polymeric architecture or in the polymer backbone such as polypeptide. In this seminar, our design of various natural product anchored polymers and their applications will be discussed.
