Abstract
The carbazole alkaloids are well-known for high biological activity like antitumor, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal activities. Due to having high biological profile we are interested for synthesizing these targets. We are planning to synthesize the carbazole core through greener approach i.e. electrochemical way followed by late stage oxidation of methyl group to access monomeric carbazole alkaloids. Integration of innovative synthetic methodologies with strategic retrosynthetic analysis has facilitated the construction of these complex frameworks with high efficiency and stereochemical precision. We have successfully devised an efficient synthetic route for producing the 1,3 disubstituted carbazole alkaloids which further utilized for the total syntheses of dimeric carbazole alkaloids via oxidative dimerization strategy. To synthesize the carbazole scaffold we utilized the Cadogan ring closure, PIDA-mediated C–N bond formation as well as Buchwald-Hartwig reaction. Later we have replaced these reactions with electrochemical approach to form the C–N form leading to the carbazole moiety.
