Abstract
Spectroscopy, mainly fluorescence spectroscopy, has become an indispensible tool to investigate atomic or molecular dynamics as well as interactions of molecules with environments in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy and almost all fields of Science. On the other hand, nanoscience and nanotechnology has become incredibly useful in daily life with its advancement. In the present dissertation, characterisation and applications of some metal nanoparticles and nanoclusters will be discussed using fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy. Noble metal nanoclusters can act as good oxidative catalysts and their catalytic behaviours are controlled depending on size. This has been discussed in one chapter through experimentation. We have developed far-red NIR emitting nanoclusters sensitive to pH that can bind selectively to cancerous cells and serve as marker. We believe, more work can be done with the probe that we reported to serve fruitfully in cancer research. In one of our works, we have showed that gold nanoclusters and single walled carbon nanotubes can act as efficient pair for the energy/electron transfer. The process develops metallic character in semi-conducting devices. The application can lead to the development of semi-conducting devices that can be minutely controlled by the concentration and nature of nanoclusters and nanotubes.
