Abstract
Electronic properties of bronzes and polychalcogenides have always been at the frontier research in condensed matter physics. This thesis presents an investigation of the electronic structure on various bronzes and polychalcogenides. The observed electronic instabilities i.e CDW and MIT in these systems are studied by high-resolution angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). ARPES is arguably the most direct probe of the physical properties of the solids, which arises from the low energy excitations. Apart from ARPES, various other techniques such as x-ray diffraction (XRD) and spatially resolved photoelectron spectromicroscopy have also been utilized to probe these systems. We have also performed theoretical electronic band structure calculations with both the ab-initio density functional theory (DFT) and tight binding approach. For a detailed and clear understanding, we have analyzed the experimental results and compared with our theoretical approaches.
