Abstract

Generally intramolecularcharge (ICT) happens when a donor and acceptor groups are present either in ortho or in para orientation with each other. It is generally accepted that ICT process does not happen in aromatic system when donor and acceptor moieties are meta oriented with each other. The present study is aimed at to investigate whether ICT process can happen when the donor and acceptor functional groups are meta oriented with each other. In this direction three compounds have been synthesized containing meta-orientated donor-acceptor functional group namely, 3-Diethylaminobenzaldehyde (DEAB) and Ethyl-3-(N,N-diethylamino)benzoate (DEABE), 5-Diethylamino-2-methoxybenzaldehyde (DEAMB). Spectroscopic and photophysical properties of these molecules were studied using steady state and time resolved fluorescence at room temperature.
