Abstract

There are already many models in the literature that describes spikes and bursting of neurons and other cells and people have already classified different types of bursting according to the bifurcation behind them , frequency profile and even according to their shape. Our main focus has been one particular type of bursting called parabolic bursting. In parabolic bursting the frequency of spikes give a parabolic kind of shape with the spike number. In this thesis We investigate the reasons behind this parabolic shape. To investigate parabolic bursting I went through from the basics of spikes to the different bifurcation phenomenon behind different bursting, then I took minimal models that exists in the literature and understood them in minute details. I assumed different possible reasons for the parabolic shape of the frequency profile and showed the outcomes of these assumption, and investigated different possible relationship with frequency and other measurable quantities and thus tried to find out explanation for the parabolic bursting.
