Abstract
We present a novel method for probing / quantifying depth resolved anisotropy information from layered turbid medium such as biological tissues. This employs spectral Mueller matrix measurements in backscattering configuration to capture polarization-resolved common-path spectral interferometry signal from layered systems. The depth information on anisotropy is gleaned by Fourier-analyzing the spectral content of the relevant Mueller matrix elements. The approach is validated on layered anisotropic homogenous samples having discrete refractive index. Since, progression of many types of diseases (including cancers) is strongly correlated with depth-wise change in anisotropic tissue structures, the method hold considerable promise as a novel diagnostic tool.
