Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to show the propagation of sound waves in the human cochlea. More importantly to implement some computational programmes to achieve a clear picture of the response of the basilar membrane to different signals of variable frequencies. However, I did not try to literally describe each structure of cochlea but instead treat it like a ‘Black Box’ where the displacement of the membrane to different signals have been shown. Two different approximations ‘deep wave’ and ‘short wave’ of this model have been explored and their implementation on the model has also been done.
