Abstract
Emotions play a crucial role in the life of a person. Expressing and perceiving emotions are tasks that we carry out without paying attention. Social media platform are now used to express these emotions to people separated in space and emoticons have become a crucial factor in social media. In this study we try to understand how emoticons effect the emotional state of a person by running an emotion perception task. The task requires identification of emotions on faces-taken from a database- following the presentation of a cue(an emoticon). The behavioural analysis was carried out to determine correlation among emoticons and emotion perception changes in subjects.
