Abstract

In the first chapter general electron molecule collision has been discussed. A Temporary Negative Ion (TNI) may form in the process. The stability and decay channels of TNI is considered here. Then dissociative electron attachment (DEA) process and procedure to measure the absolute DEA cross-section using relative flow technique is discussed. Some discussion about angular distribution and kinetic energy distribution among the fragments is also there in the first chapter. The second chapter contains a brief history of the development of velocity map imaging technique. The time slicing technique in velocity map imaging is discussed. Then the basic principle of the experimental set-up developed in the project is discussed in this section. The third chapter is on instrumental. All the instrumental technique require in this set-up has been discussed there. Mainly about vacuum pump, electron gun, method to produce pulsed electron beam, and the detector is described in this chapter. Some simulation done during the project is also discussed briefly in chapter three. In the fourth chapter basic principle of ion optics is described. A discussion about dierent types of electrostatic lenses is there. Then the ion optic used in this experimental set-up is described. Most of the computation is done using Matlab. some of the Matlab code written during the project is given in the appendix A.
