Abstract

1,4 diketonic products are of huge importance in pharmaceutical and as synthetic industrial products since they are the major precursors of synthesis of important heterocyclic products. The project describes the working strategy and design of an innovative one-pot synthetic pathway of 1,4 diphenyl-butane-1,4 dione involving the dimerization and then oxidation of styrene via DMSO. The product is crystalline in nature and has been characterized via Single Crystal X-Ray Diffraction (SCXRD), Fourier Transform Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (FTNMR), Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-MS) Techniques.
