    Abstract

    The present work introduces the reader to the term Quantum Discord. This has been followed by derivation of the working formula for it. Then, the chapter has been concluded with a review of the important discoveries made till date about Quantum Discord. Then it builds up on the topic of the thesis by introducing Quantum Phase Transitions (QPT). A brief description about the term has been followed up with the various QPT’s witnesses reported so far. It then deals with the capturing of QPT’s in different spin models like XYZ, XY, XZ, Quantum Ising and XYZ Alternating Dimer, with the detailed analysis of these models. After that it describes various properties of Concurrence and Quantum Discord like Entanglement Monogamy and entanglement distribution in spin chain systems. The thesis concludes with a summary of the work done and the drawbacks still persisting in the system. The possible solutions to these drawbacks, as future work to this thesis, have been described.
