    Abstract

    The Maximum Entropy Principle was first stated by E.T. Jaynes around five decades ago. Since the, it has been applied with varying degrees of sucess in fields such as Thermodynamics, Time Series Analysis, Reliability Theory, Pattern Recognition, Biological Modelling and so on. The intuition behind the Maximum Entropy Principle is established and see how the principle leads to almost all the known probability distributions used in statistics. In entropy maximization models, the role of convexity for entropy measures is emphasized. Relative assessment of several principles and theorise used in statistics is given.
