Abstract
The analysis of the flow field and the heat transfer characteristics in a "Radial jet reattachment flow" have been analyzed by solving the full Navier-Stokes and energy equations. The influence of Reynolds number on the flow field has been investigated in the present study. The velocity signals at the selected locations in the flow field have been recorded at various Reynolds numbers. The results from the present study reveal that the flow in radial jet remains steady up to a Reynolds number of 240 and then it becomes unsteady periodic. The flow becomes chaotic when the Reynolds number approaches a value of 450 (approx). The transition of ow from steady to chaotic flow takes place through the period bubbling route. It is observed that the ow becomes periodic around a Reynolds number of 250 with one frequency and enters the quasi-periodic region at around a Reynolds number of 400. The transition route from steady to chaotic has been analyzed using spectra, Poincare section and the bifurcation diagram.
