    Herein, synthetic polymeric gel was synthesized by using the efficient thiol-norbornene chemistry to cross-link hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) norbornene end functionalized and hydrophobic cross-linker norbornene end functionalized polymer chains with Pentaerythritol tetrakis(3-mercaptopropionate) in the presence of photoinitiator 2-hydroxy-4'-(2 hydroxyethoxy)-2-methylpropiophenone under UV irradiations. ¹H NMR spectroscopy, ¹³C NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry confirmed the formation of hydrophilic and hydrophobic moieties. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy confirmed the formation of polymeric gel. Microstructures of polymeric gel were studied with scanning electron microscopy. Thermogravimetric analysis showed the thermal stability of gel up to 180ºC and swelling ability of hydrogel studied in different solvents. Moreover, absorption study has been done for cationic dye, rhodamine B and anionic dye, methyl orange by using UV-Vis spectroscopy.
