Abstract

This thesis is a study of the interaction of Terahertz (THz) radiation with various rectangular metallic gratings in free-space and substrates. Despite many new and useful applications of THz, this regime is the least explored regions of EM spectrum. The pri- mary reasons are that these radiations are hard to produce and detect. Also, they are heavily attenuated by Earth's atmosphere. THz passing through carefully engineered structures can exhibit extraordinary optical transmission (EOT). These structures can be used to improve the performance of Ter- ahertz detectors. In this thesis, such structures are numerically investigated to design gold and silicon wire-gratings which exhibit EOT, acting as filters and polarizers in THz regime.
