Abstract
The expression “isostructural polymorphs” would appear to be an impossible combination of two mutually incompatible words. “Isostructural” implies a high degree of structural similarity; however, conversely, “polymorph” implies structural distinguishability. The study has been done on Schiff’s bases of Isatin derivatives on their mechanical properties and the Isostructurality in their crystals. The comparison of different parameters in the crystals is done for exploring the cause of difference or similarity in the mechanical properties in the crystal. The study was elaborated by inclusion of different functional groups into the system to see their effect in their mechanical properties. The study reveals that the isostructurality of structural similar compounds does not guaranty the similarity in mechanical properties, rather it depends on the nature of interactions at the slip plane.
