Abstract

Considering the concerned literature, it is clear that cerium oxide nanoparticles are toxic and it is necessary to study about removal of toxic CeO2 nanoparticles from aqueous solutions, which has not been explored so far. Nanotoxicity is a serious issue and awarenes should be spread about the minimal use. In this project an attempt has been made to application of IONPs to remediate CeO2 NPs from aqueous solution. As IONPs is eco-friendly and inexpensive, therefore it is very safe to use it for remediation. The objectives of the present works is to synthesize IONPs and analyse it with different characterisation techniques TEM, SEM, XRD and DLS. Adsorption studies of IONP and CeO2 particles with different physical condition like pH, ionic strength, time and concentration of humic acid and bicarbonate. Interaction studies and insight about removal mechanism. It was found that the synthesized IONP is well dispersed and spherical with size of around 200 nm and have Fe3O4 composition. It follows Langmuir isotherm (R2 = 0.995) preferably than Freundlich Isotherm (R² = 0.92) which support mono layer sorption with having uniform sorption energy of the surface of IONPs. The results indicated that the adsorption of CeO2 onto IONP agrees well to the pseudo-second-order model.
