Abstract
Fluid spike states were observed in the experiment with liquid in a vertically oscillating container and modeling this dynamical system has lead to form return maps which admits states at infinity. In this thesis we investigate the statistics of those particularly spiked states with return map, whose heights are beyond a particular threshold and those states are denoted as extreme events for this system .We show that the probability distribution of those states follow a power law, quite comparable to natural extreme events, but the probability of first time occurrence and mean time between two extreme events are quite different from other natural phenomena. We also observe the extreme event statistics in spatial extended systems governing by this map.
