Abstract

Since people had been worrying about the excessive consumption of conventional fuels (coal, oil etc.) they had to think about something alternative and what could be the best option than sunlight because of its easy abundance. Since then, capturing the sunlight had become a challenge and they started to think of implementing the idea of converting solar power into usable electrical energy through solar cell. People have progressed a lot in doing so, have developed the silicon solar cell, organic solar cell and are trying to do better day by day in terms of its efficiency. In recent days people have tried to replicate the idea of conversion of energy into another kind of solar cell (called perovskite solar cell) where the absorber (of sunlight) material, used, is perovskite (ABX₃) and we have got interesting and very good efficiencies indeed. This thesis is to present in a nutshell on the achievement of perovskite solar cell and our research on mixed halide MAPbI₃-xClx perovskite solar cell. We have demonstrated the necessary steps to be taken for the purpose of the experiments to achieve the solar cell efficiencies and finally we conclude the thesis with its effectiveness and its future possibility. Chapter 1 is the introduction to the subject matter of the thesis. It starts with the basic introduction of solar cell specially the conventional silicon solar cell and how it works. With this we extended the absorbing property of it into perovskite solar cell and its working principle. Then we discussed how perovskite solar cell came into the photovoltaic picture and its evolvement through the length of time. Keeping the hazards of using perovskite solar cell, at the end of this chapter the aim of this thesis is mentioned elaborately that how from pure to mixed halide perovskite can be engineered to build the ground to achieve the objectives of our research. Chapter 2 describes the experimental section of the thesis. The synthesis process of pure and mixed halide perovskite solar cell is explained elaborately. The experimental tools or more precisely the instruments that were needed to characterize all the samples prepared were discussed on the last part of this chapter. Chapter 3 presents the data analysis and discussion of all the samples prepared for our studies. The analysis helped in approaching the aim, drawbacks of the experiments that were carried out throughout the course of the thesis work are also described for completeness. Chapter 4 is the conclusion to the thesis work. It concludes with summarizing all the previous contents and finally stating how much of the aim of the thesis was achieved with some future possibilities. At the very end it acknowledges all the references used for the study of the subject matter of the thesis.
