Abstract
The phenomenon of gravitational collapse has drawn considerable interest in the recent years and significant work has been done in this field. We consider here a spatially homogeneous scalar field in a spherically symmetric space-time and analyze the final fate of such a continual collapse which will either be a black hole or a naked singularity under a wide variety of physically reasonable circumstances within the framework of general theory of relativity. We assume a quadratic power law potential of the scalar field and analyse the final result of the collapse model.
