Abstract
The thesis is divided in the following five chapters. Chapter 1 illustrates the biological significance of carbohydrates in various life processes and therapeutic uses. Chapter 2 deals with the modern glycosylation techniques for stereoselective 1,2-cis glycosides in the domain of chemical O-glycosylation. Chapter 3 details the chemical synthesis of the pentasaccharide repeating unit of the Ospecific polysaccharide from Escherichia coli O132 in the form of its 2- aminoethyl glycoside. Chapter 4 illustrates chemical synthesis of β-L-rhamnose containing pentasaccharide repeating unit of the O-specific polysaccharide from a halophilic bacterium Halomonas ventosae RU5S2EL in the form of its 2-aminoethyl glycoside. Chapter 5 demonstrates the chemical synthesis of the trisaccharide repeating unit of the Oantigen from Pseudomonas putida BIM B-1100.
