Abstract
The main objective of the thesis is to address the various aspects of solvation in terms of different modes of interaction (mainly solute-solvent and solvent-solvent type) in solution phase by monitoring the optical response of fluorescence probes. Structurally similar dyes akin to ketocyanine dyes can be synthesized and used to probe neat, mixed binary solvents, aqueous cyclodextrin solution, and normal aqueous and reverse micellar media by utilizing their polarity sensitive absorption and fluorescence. In the present work spectroscopic parameters of four such dyes, have been monitored in various homogeneous and microheterogeneous media.
