Abstract

Although spectroscopic evidence of dye-metal ion interaction is documented in the literature, question regarding the nature of interaction, its dependence on the identity of metal ion and the structure of the dyes have not been studied as yet. Moreover, interactions have always been studied in a solution, but the role of solvent on dye-metal ion interaction has not been addressed properly. The present thesis addressed these points. It deals with both experimental and theoretical studies of interaction of metal ions with ketocyanine dyes.
