Abstract

After illustrating the biological significance of carbohydrates, its use as therapeutics and the emergence of glycomics, the present work reviews different techniques of glycosidic bond formation considering different types of donors and promoters as well as some special techniques developed for the stereoselective formation of glycosidic linkages. Later it describes the total synthesis of tetra- and a trisaccharide related to the repeating unit of the Oantigen from Providencia rustigianii O34. Then it moves to deal with the synthesis and catalytic use of Carbohydrate derived thiosemicarbazone and semicarbazone Palladium complexes. After that it describes the total synthesis of a tetrasaccharide from Azospirillum lipoferum SR65. It then provides a detailed account of the development of the methodologies for carbohydrate protecting group manipulation by using H2SO4-silica. It consist the Selective hydrolysis of benzylidene and isopropylidene group using H2SO4-Silica in presence of acid labile p-methoxybenzyl group. Later it presents a detailed of synthesis of tetrasaccharide related to Shigella boydii type O16
