Abstract
The north-eastern Himalaya of the Nepal region possesses unique seismicity that experiences small to great earthquakes because of the tectonic collision between Indian plate and Eurasian plate. Investigation of Earth’s crust structure is essential to understand the crustal deformation and the geodynamic processes that evolve with time. The surface wave velocity model of the crust beneath the Nepal Himalaya is determined by joint inversion of Rayleigh wave dispersion and receiver function, calculated from teleseismic earthquakes data recorded at seismic stations oriented along a north-south profile. A wide range of variation is observed between the seismic stations situated in different geographical regions with respect to the depth of Mohorovičić discontinuity i.e. the crustal thickness. The crustal thicknesses beneath the stations, that are situated in the lesser Himalaya region, lies between 42 km and 46 km and it is thicker for the station in the higher Himalaya region mostly reaching 48km to 56 km.
