Abstract

The present work starts with a discussion on Isolation and microbiological characterization of oil and other hydrocarbon degrading microorganisms. Later, it undertook the studies on biofilm formation by isolated organisms and biofilm mediated crude oil degradation and physical and chemical characterization of biofilm. Then, isolation and characterization of secondary metabolites from bacterial cultures grown in presence of crude oil and other carbon sources was discussed. Lastly, it presented the study on the role of secondary metabolites in (a) biofilm formation and crude oil degradation, and (b) anti-bacterial and cytotoxic activity against cancer cells.
