Abstract

The catalytic addition of a N–H bond across a C–C multiple bond is termed as hydroamination reaction. The hydroamination reaction offers an efficient and atom economical route to produce nitrogen containing molecules which are of great interest to academic and industrial researchers. At present, most of these molecules are synthesized by multistep synthesis leading to the production of many side products and waste. Alternatively, hydroamination offers an alternative strategy to synthesize nitrogen containing molecules in environmental friendly way. This fundamentally simple transformation proceeds with 100% atom economy without any waste formation. Over the last decade, there have been enormous efforts to develop an efficient catalyst for this demanding transformation. However, a systematic study combined with kinetics, X-ray, NMR, and DFT calculation has been missing in literature, in particular, in the area of hydroamination catalyst development through heterobimetallic/multimetallic and main group organometallic catalysts. The major thrusts of the present study are mainly two folds: development of well defined bimetallic/multimetallic organometallic catalysts and development of main group metal based organometallic catalytic systems for the hydroamination reaction aiming to understand the mechanistic aspects of the catalytic process.
