Abstract
This master’s project aims to investigate the field of indirect detection of dark matter by studying the signal originating from self-annihilation of dark matter candidate particles. We here tried to focus on both, prompt gamma-ray emission and electromagnetic radiation emitted by the secondary particles. This report starts with introduction to dark matter, evidences of it’s existence and glimpse of different approaches for dark matter detection. Chapter 1 briefly discusses about the !CDM model of cosmology, WIMP as the dark matter candidate and detection techniques; Direct detection, Collider searches, Indirect detection. Chapter 2 provides a brief introduction to Fermi Large Area Telescope and methodology for gamma-ray data analysis. The analysis of LAT data of Tucana II galaxy and our results is also shown in Chapter 2. The discussions regarding the electromagnetic radiation emitted by secondary charged particles such as synchrotron and inverse Compton radiation is covered in the Chapter 3. Our study of expected inverse Compton flux of a few selected good candidate ultra-faint dwarf galaxies with the results is also summarised in Chapter 3. My overall take home from the project, conclusions and comments on the results are presented in the last chapter Chapter 4. I have discussed the future prospects in the field of High energy astrophysics and Astroparticle Physics and concluded my master’s project.
