Abstract
The main aim of the project is to study the spacetime in the exterior and interior of a slowly rotating star. After briefly reviewing the non-rotating spherically symmetric spacetimes, we first make the notion of “slow” rotation precise and move on to rotating solutions by treating the rotation metric to be a perturbation on the non-rotating case. Then we investigate the relevant Einstein’s equations arising from that metric for uniformly and rigidly rotating stars. We see that the frame dragging parameter in the metric arises due to the axisymmetric nature of the spacetime of the rotating configuration. We find this parameter by solving the non-diagonal Einstein field equations and provide the metric in the exterior to O(Ω). Finally we set up Einstein’s equations in the interior which have to be solved for the unknowns in the metric. We conclude by providing a physical interpretation for the constants of integration that appear while solving the differential equations for the metric coefficients.
