Abstract

This thesis titled, ’Brownian Motion in Granular Fluid’, mainly focuses on the experimental method that we have developed to study the motion of granular matter which is under an external perturbation and try and understand its Thermodynamics from various distributions like that of velocity. The first part deals with the setup that I have made on my own. In second part I will tell about the working of the scientific camera that we have used for imaging. In the third part I will explain about image processing and the tracking of the particles and in the next part I will finally show the data I’ve obtained and plot various graphs and distributions and we’ll try to extract some quantities from them. I will conclude my thesis by reporting the difficulties that I faced in various steps and what steps did I take to overcome them and what are the shortcomings which still need to be addressed. I will also write about the future prospects of the project.
