Abstract
Chapter 1 illustrates a general introduction on the biological significance of carbohydrates, its use as therapeutics and the emergence of glycomics. Chapter 2 reviews different techniques of glycosidic bond formation considering different types of donors and promoters as well as some special techniques developed for the stereoselective formation of glycosidic linkages. Chapter 3 describes the complete synthesis of a tetrasaccharide derived naturally from a bacterium named E.tarda. Starting from four different commercially available sugar unit, required protection, implementation of specific functional at specific position was done to have the required synthon of each and every monosachharide part. Then by means of glycosylation all four monosaccharide units were joined together and after series of deprotections our required tetrasachharide moiety was achieved. Now to use this as a vaccine target the reducing end of this tetrasaccharide i.e Op- methoxy phenol group is to be cleaved selectively by introducing trichloroacetamido chemistry. Further at this end suitable carrier protein has to be incorporated to do the biological tests as vaccine to the attack of E.tarda.
