Abstract

Methylamine (MA) perovskite was synthesized by two methods as suggested in literature. Another method was explored to synthesize perovskite by slight variation to already reported method by replacing methylamine in ethanol with methylamine in water. It yielded predominantly yellow colored hydrated Ma₄PbI₄.2H₂O crystals.MA perovskite thus obtained by all methods, were analyzed using wide angle XRD and TGA. WA-XRD shows characteristic peaks at 14.00⁰ and 28.36⁰ are for (110) and (220) planes, which are missing from yellow colored crystals. TGA analysis was performed on freshly prepared MA perovskite and on another MA perovskite sample stored for a week. The freshly prepared sample was stable upto 340oC while stored sample was only upto 300⁰C, suggesting that MA perovskite are prone to degradation over time in atmosphere. A hybrid crossover method of fabrication techniques employed by Miyakasa and Gratzel was utilized for preparation of cells. For cells with triiodide as electrolyte, the average Voc and Jsc were 0.3412 V and 5.5 mA/cm² with an average efficiency of 0.09%. The best efficiency ever obtained was 0.17%. With ferrocene as an electrolyte, the Voc has improved to 0.4211V compared to 0.3412 V for triiodide but Jsc & FF has decreased significantly only to yield efficiency of 0.03%. The efficiency of cells deteriorates over time due to water incorporation which turns perovskite into its hydrated forms.
