Abstract

A highly efficacious fluorescent chemosensor has been synthesized, predicated on a biodegradable and biocompatible norbornene derivative. The superiority of polymeric sensors over their monomeric counterparts lies in their enhanced solubility, expedited response time, and exceptional detection limit. Chapter 1 provides a concise introduction to macromolecules and chemosensors, while Chapter 2 delves into the synthesis, characterization, and results pertaining to monomer and the polymer. The reaction-based system results in the observation of fluorescence upon reaction with H₂S. Following the interaction with H₂S, the sensor monomer fluorescence, thereby leading to the regeneration of the precursor molecule. Chapter 3 offers a comprehensive overview of the study’s results and discussion. The synthesized molecules were characterized utilizing ¹H NMR, ¹³C, and mass spectroscopy. Both the monomer and polymer effectively detected hydrogen sulfide in solution, as confirmed through an array of selective studies.
