Abstract

Controlled RAFT polymerization of Boc-L-Met-HEMA monomer can be achieved in THF at 60°C, in the presence of AIBN as an initiator and CTP as CTA. The ¹H NMR measurements suggested that most of the chain ends of the polymers are functionalized with the dithioester end groups. MacroCTA (PMETMA) was used to prepare block copolymers. Homopolymer was alkylated with different alkyl halides such as Bromoacetaldehyde diethyl acetal, α-Bromophenylacetic acid, propargyl bromide, Benzyl bromide, 4-bromobutyric acid, and benzyl bromoacetate. Block copolymer alkylated with the α-Bromophenylacetic acid, propargyl bromide, and Benzyl bromide. Polymers are optically active. The arrangement of pendant group along methacrylate back bone is chiral, as is confirmed from CD spectroscopic measurements.
