Abstract
Mobility of 35 west-flowing rivers across the drainage divide of Godavari, Krishna, and Cauvery River was studied to examine how this mobility affects the passive margins of western ghats escarpment. Gilbert's metrics and χ metric were used to find the mobility of the divide using the standard deviation criteria, then χ plots were used as another proxy to give positive feedback for the calculated mobility of the divide, and finally, some evidence was used to justify the criteria we are using and how the rivers have already captured the catchment areas of Krishna, Godavari and Cauvery rivers which are leading to the gradual retreat of the escarpment.
