Abstract
The work is divided in to two parts. In the first part we develop the framework of Quantum Field Theory in Curved Spacetime (QFT in CST). Here we start by looking at various coordinate systems used to study spacetimes with eternal blackholes. Then we look at the mathematical structure of QFT in CST and go on to deal with several implications including the famous Unruh and Hawking Radiation. The second part of the thesis is concerned with understanding the backreaction phenomena and its implications. We then consider a toy 1+1 dimensional model called the Callan–Giddings–Harvey–Strominger model (CGHS model) to look at blackhole formation and backreaction in this model. Finally we review the recent work done by Hollands, Wald and Zahn [1] on how Quantum effects in the semiclassical regime may reinforce the strong censorship conjecture.
